Millions of BlackBerry Smartphone Users Have Been Cut Off By Major Fault at RIM

A problem, which struck at about 11 on
Monday Oct 10, 2011 morning, has
impacted online services for Blackberry
consumers around Europe, Middle East and
Africa . They all are served by a RIM (Research
in Motion) data centre in Slough, west of
London.
Users have been struggling to browse the
net or send or receive instant messages, or
access other internet services including
email, facebook and twitter.
A RIM spokesman wasn’t immediately
available for remark, however, users who’re
served by a corporate server seemed to be
untouched.
In one of its official Tweets, however, T-
Mobile UK said: “There is a problem with
Blackberry services presently. RIM are
looking into this currently.”
The current disruption will heap additional
woe on RIM, which launched its BlackBerry
line in 1999. It’s under increasing pressure
from most recent entrants to the
smartphone market such as Apple’s iOS and
Google’s Android.
Its 2nd quarter results last month unveiled a
gloomy picture, with a distinct drop in
revenue and failure to meet sales goals
